Sisterhood Supper Club in Bloom

June 13, 2023|

Someone once said that “sisters are different flowers from the same garden” (Unknown) and our garden was in full bloom last Thursday. After some lively networking time, we sat for dinner at stunning tables decorated by Ekima Roper-Smith and her team at The Five Party and Event Center. The beautiful centerpieces designed by the students from Amanda Greenwood’s Petals that Inspire set the tone for a dinner full of deep discussions, laughter, and tears. Catered by Chaneice fed our bellies, while our table leaders led each table through an intentional discussion of sisterhood. The language of flowers dictated our table conversations (see below). While our conversation details are reserved for the women who were in the room, each conversation brought us closer together and further strengthened our bonds of sisterhood. Protea (led by Jana Croom) for courage. Desert Rose (led by Ella Williams) for resilience. Alyssum [...]

Introducing Ella Williams

March 16, 2023|

I’m so excited to introduce you to Ella Williams. Ella is 39 years old and has two children - a 15-year-old and a three-year-old. She and her partner have been together for ten years, married for five. She owns a social enterprise that is a mobile tearoom, Posh Teatime &Co., which specializes in bringing a luxury afternoon tea party to people’s home or venue. As a social enterprise, Ella’s organization works with non-profits like Huckleberry House to teach etiquette classes, home economics, and life skills classes for at-risk youth. I met Ella through Sherrice Thomas of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce when she posted about a Posh Teatime event and after watching Ella’s posts for a while, I just knew I had to meet her and doing so has completely enriched my friendship circle. When you spend time with Ella, there is by default laughter in the air. I hope [...]

December 8, 2022|

My understanding of sisterhood was shaken after the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. The cries of my black sisters finally broke through, no longer to be contained by code-switching for survival, and helped me to question how I defined sisters. It was in doing a 30-day racism awareness challenge that I began to see how narrow my world view was and how much I was drowning in my own whiteness. This challenge asked me to identify my closest friends – most were white. It asked who my favorite authors were – most were white. The artists who inspired me – most were white. My influencers – most were white. Holy smokes. In this process, I began to grieve [...]
